What better place for a road trip than the Sunshine State? Florida is filled with beautiful beaches, thrilling amusement parks, and must-see attractions that beckon to anyone with an adventurous spirit, and especially if you car hire a convertible.
Whether starting from up north from Jacksonville or south near Miami, or somewhere in between like Tampa, there is much to see an do in all parts of the state. For simplicity, start at the top and work your way down.
Jacksonville is the largest city in Florida and an excellent place to kick off a road trip. Full of restaurants and a fun nightlife scene, Jacksonville is also a great place to visit for culture and nature. The Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary offers amazing views of big cats, such as tigers, lions, leopards, bobcats, and cougars. It’s a great way to get your heart pumping. Calm down at the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, which features beautifully landscaped grounds and six thousand pieces of art. If you want more art, head to the Riverside Arts Market or instead take a quick drive to the beautiful Atlantic Beach.
A quick ride down the gorgeous coast brings you to St. Augustine. If you love everything creepy crawly, check out the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park. For some fascinating sites you won’t see anywhere else, try the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum.
Another short ride down the coast takes you to Daytona Beach. Located about 1/3 of the way from Jacksonville to Miami, the city is home to the Daytona International Speedway, a must for anyone on a mega road trip. There are a multitude of aquatic activities if you need a break from your car, or you can drive along the Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway and see some beautiful estates.
Southwest of Daytona, in the center of the state, lies Disney World, truly the happiest place on the East Coast. This family-friendly amusement park in Orlando should be on everyone’s destination list. Head to Epcot Center first to ride the Cars-themed Test Track, then spend the day at the Magic Kingdom, and don’t forget to get your picture with Mickey.
Heading east, you can visit the Kennedy Space Center before turning south. The visitor complex is an attraction like no other and the closest most will ever get to a space adventure.
Continue down the amazing Florida coast to the happening city of Miami. Dolphin encounters, Jungle Island, wilderness treks into the Everglades National Park, food tours, sighting cruises…there is no end to the things you can do in and around Miami. The city is famous for its beaches and nightlife. Rent a kayak, paddleboat, or WaveRunner and see the city from a fish’s eye view.
If you need a break from the big city, head down to Key West at the bottom tip of the state. The southern most part of the continental US is the perfect place to end a long, grueling road trip. Take in the sites of the spectacular Victorian architecture, and visit the home of Harry S Truman, the country’s thirty-third president, to experience a bit of history. You can also enjoy a relaxing and romantic meal on the beach.
Or if you want, car hire a vehicle in Key West and take the trip in reverse!
